Don’t be a lazy Disciple/Christian

Don’t be a lazy Disciple/Christian

I was the kid who always got my new clothes dirty within a week or two. My mom would be mad. I always thought that she was mad because of the money she spent. I was so wrong. I figured out why she was angry when I start buying my own clothes.

When I start buying my own clothes, I kept better care of them. Not because I bought them but because I worked hard to buy them. See my mom busted her butt to make sure we (my brother and I) had everything that we needed so she appreciated our clothes more than we appreciated our clothes. Many people are just like me when I was a kid, as it relates to their Christianity.

I believe that many people (young, old and everyone in between) doesn’t appreciate their faith because they have not put in any work. They are lazy Christians! How can I say that, you ask? So, many people who say they are followers of Jesus live dirty lives and do nothing to protect the faith. They just live causal lives chasing vain pursuits. They live lives with no devotion to God’s Word, no prayer life, no fellowship with other believers (church) or any self-denial (obedience). This is the person who says, “I believe in Jesus and that’s all I have to do.”

Am I describing you? I don’t mean to be harsh and I do mean to be honest. Check yourself! Are you a lazy Christian? Are you a Christian who doesn’t appreciate Jesus, the cross, and His mission? I want to encourage you to put in some work. You are saved by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Since we are saved we ought to work and we should be living for Jesus (James 2:20, 2 Corinthians 5:15).

Put in the work. Don’t look for ways to do what you want. Instead look for ways to do what Jesus wants. You can do this! I know you can because Jesus died to enable you to do so. I love you and I am here if you need help doing this.
