How to be Serious about God - Part I

If you are reading this you want to be serious about God; you want to help others be serious about God or your curious to what this post is about. This series of blogs will show you exactly how to be serious about God. If you are a person who says, “I’m not serious about God because I don’t like playing with God.” This series is especially for you.  Let’s get right to it...

Step Number One - Know you are an evil wicked sinner deserving hell.

If you find yourself not taking your relationship with Jesus serious then you may not know this first point. Do you know you deserve hell? When I talk to most non believers and believers they don’t think they are evil. They certainly don’t think they deserve hell. This thought is dangerous because your need for Jesus (Lord & Savior) goes out the window.

Have you sinned before? Have you broken one of God’s holy commandments? If so, do you know what that means (James 2:10)? Do you know the consequences of your sin (Romans 6:23)? See our sin is much bigger than a mistake. Our sin is a rejection of who God is and a flat out decleration of war against God. You may not feel like that but God does. That is why step two will be so important to you.

Please don’t miss the importance of this step. If you do not view yourself as a sinner who deserves hell then you will never be serious about God. If you never viewed yourself as a enemy of God then you have no need of a Savior. Matter of fact, you can’t be saved because you don’t need a Savior. You don’t need Jesus!

I am not here to bash you because of your sins. I am simply here to point out that all of us are sinners and need a Savior. Read the 10 commandments in Exdous 20. Have you broken one command? God is serious about your sin because He is serious about you. God loves you. Your sin is destructive to, your family and community. The question is, are you serious about God?

So, if you want to be serious about God then you have to stop being deceived, thinking you are a “good” person. The truth is you are not good. Someone called Jesus good in Mark 10:17 and He responsed, “No one is good but the Father (God)”. The only way you can be good is to recognize that you are not good and need Jesus to save/deliever you from the sin you cannot conquer on your own. A person is only “good” when they have surrendered their entire life to Jesus and Jesus covers that person with His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Hey, I am not here to give you all the answers for I don’t have all the answers. I am here to point you to the Word of God (the Bible), which points you to Jesus. Here are some scriptures you may want to check out. Please know I am here to answer any questions for clarification.
